Alex Wellington

My name’s Alex and I’m sad to admit, I have Type 1 diabetes. I was diagnosed on 8 August 2016, shortly after completing my AS exams and conquering Snowdon on my 17th birthday.

I underestimated the impact diabetes had on my life which was why I became a private candidate. This affords me the freedom to balance my studies with a healthy lifestyle. My ambition is to become a barrister so am currently busy studying for the LNAT and A levels.

When I’m not being ‘diabetic’, I’m a compulsive collector of newspapers and autographs. I’m a keen mountain climber striving to conquer a new summit every year in recognition of my daily struggles – starting with Pen-y-fan and finishing with Everest. And as for relaxing, I like to watch an episode of ‘Modern Family’ with a bottle of Coca Cola (diet of course).

I hope to make my blogs as real as possible. It’s no secret that life with diabetes is hard and confusing and the struggle ‘in getting there’ is just as important as the ‘final destination’. I look forward in sharing my journey with you.
