My name is Jenni Shaw. I am 30 years old and currently work as an events manager at a 5 star hotel in central London. I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when I was 5 years old when my mum, who was a GP, noticed all the signs and got me checked out. I was lucky enough to be able to manage from home from the very start. I was never in hospital due to my parents both being doctors and my local hospital team – who were very accommodating – came to visit me.
Since then, I have not always been the most well-behaved diabetic, sometimes letting life take over and neglecting to check my sugar as much as I should. I am now, however, completely on board and on track with my diabetes management. I am by no means perfect and I have those hypers and hypos that we all get, but I feel much better placed to manage these now.
I decided to blog for Diabetes UK to share my day-to-day life with the beast that is Type 1 diabetes in order to motivate myself and others to live life to the full despite the challenges that are thrown at us. I also write for my own personal blog site.
