Charlotte Austin

Charlotte was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 1992 at the age of 3. As a reward for doing her own injections at 4 years old, Charlotte was awarded a certificate by the Diabetic Unit at Singleton Hospital, Swansea.

For a long time there was a lot of ‘winging it’ involved when it came to diabetes management, but she hasn’t let diabetes get in her way at all. She studied English and Popular Culture at university, and now works in the Production Editorial Department at a small academic publishing company in Oxford. She spends most of her time in the weightlifting gym, but can occasionally be found in a yoga class or walking along the beautiful Oxford canal path.

As part of the Diabetes UK Cymru YPP group, Charlotte feels strongly about peer support and mentoring younger people with diabetes. This also encouraged her to become part of the #type1uncut project (to find out more about Charlotte, watch Charlotte’s Family Facetime video). You can follow Charlotte on twitter @_CharlotteLA_
