Victoria Bartlett

Hi my name is Victoria, but please call me Vicky, I live in Birmingham with my husband, henceforth known as his Lordship and two goldfish Bell and Strauss. I have worked as a Public Relations consultant for over 20 years until I was recently struck down by ill health. A published poet, and cricket lover (hence the goldfish names), I can often be found at Edgabston watching Warwickshire CCC. I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in 2009 and Gastroparesis in 2012.

The NHS Choices website, describes Gastroparesis as a chronic condition, in which the stomach cannot empty itself of food in the normal way. Typical systems include vomiting, nausea, bloating, feeling sick or full when eating and weight loss. When the cause is known it is usually poorly controlled diabetes, when constantly high levels of blood glucose damage the nerves to the stomach. It also hurts like hell!

Gastroparesis is quite rare and unfortunately there is no cure, not much research and very little information available. That is why I am writing this blog to try and raise awareness not only to the world and his wife but also to the medical community where there is a disparate and insufficient understanding and knowledge of this vile condition.
