Diabetes UK Cymru does the Cardiff Half Marathon

On the cold but sunny morning of Sunday 17 October 2010, 15,000 people took to the streets of Cardiff to take on the annual Cardiff Half Marathon.

Lots ran for charity, others for running clubs, with many runners sporting gloves to fight off the chill. More than 50 runners, including Claire Hillier from BBC1’s Over the Rainbow, wore Diabetes UK vests and pounded the streets to raise vital funds for Diabetes UK Cymru.

To support our runners, we set up a tent in the basin near the Wales Millennium Centre, where runners could stop by for a chat and to leave their bags during the run. Many of our runners – including one sporting sprayed pink hair – did stop by, exhausted and exhilarated after completing the course.

It was a fantastic day and we would like to say a huge thank you to all of our runners for taking on the challenge to show their support for people with diabetes in Wales. We have posted photographs from the day on our Facebook group and on Flickr.

If the photographs have inspired you to sign up for next year’s half marathon on Sunday 16 October 2011, you can already sign up online (www.cardiffhalfmarathon.co.uk).

We hope to see you there!
